I find data to be a fantastic indicator of my effectiveness as a teacher as it leads me to know when to reteach with different strategies, what students require extra interventions, specific skills students need work on, and how to form small and center groups.

Each student has a file in a box behind my desk with three folders inside- one for ELA, one for math, and another for behavior. I will store dated student work samples, their monthly behavior charts and notes, independent practice sheets, and any other forms I find to be telling of the student's academic standing. These help me to discuss the child's progress with their families during conferences.

Along with the files- I keep data binders. These hold spreadsheets showing how students scored individually and as a whole on different assessments throughout the year. Every student has a section with a packet of running assessments for every report card standard for the year. I will assess them on the beginning standards at the beginning of August and continue assessing as we progress. This helps in showing their progress and where they may be struggling- aiding in discussions with their families, creating groups, and determining the navigation of tier students.

Centers and Small Groups
I use this data to build my small and center groups. Students performing around the same level will be split into one of three groups- low, middle, or high. The lowest, tier 3, will work with my assistant daily. I will pull the middle and high group 2 times a week. I am able to look in to specific skills and pull students struggling with that skill, regardless of their performance level.
