I strive to create and implement lessons that are engaging, effective, and memorable. This is mostly done by prior planning for opportunities for students to lead, culminating activities, or supplimenting extra materials into the scripted lessons.

After students show mastery of a skill, I love to give the opportunity for them to teach it. This aids in keeping them engaged while presenting it to their peers in a more interesting way. I allow students to take over sections of our morning meeting, calendar, letter fluency drills, whole-group practice, and more! They love "playing teacher!"
After completing "letter bootcamp" each child was assigned a letter and given a bag cut into a vest. They worked with their families to design a vest covered in things starting with their assigned letter. We set the chairs beside the red carpet put up the backdrop before letting them show off their vest while walking to their favorite Disney songs! It was such a fun way to review letters while letting them break out of their shells!
Our class was lucky enough to be showcased at a presentation for every administrator in our county!
We love learning about our 5 senses by putting them to the test. We spent the week practicing sight and hearing on a nature walk, taste through a taste test sorting activity, smell through smell pots, and touch through a feeling box. We got to culminate the unit by testing all 5 at once through making popcorn!
Students used pom poms and clothes pins to paint popcorn
We made popcorn to practice all 5 senses at once!
After learning about Ray Charles- students made their name in Braille!
After learning all of our 2D and 3D shapes- we have a shape feast! We push the tables together and go through each item before placing it on the plates. We got to discuss what shape the object was, if it was 2D or 3D, and if we would label it as flat or solid before having a feast for snack!
After completing our Kings and Queens unit- we got to attend our very own royal ball! Students got to dress in their fanciest attire, make crowns, dance at the ball, and have a royal tea party.
We often use dress up days to help get students excited! While we dress up for countless things throughout the year- these pictures showcase the students' favorite nursery rhymes! It was such a fun way to end our unit.
